October 1, 2012

We had a great time a Dodge Nature Center last Friday.  5th graders surveyed their designated tree study area and each group selected a tree which they will study for the rest of the year.  All groups also collect air, water, and soil temperature.  We also learned about bees.  Pam (naturalist from Dodge) opened a bee hive  and showed us the worker bees busy making honey and taking care of the hive.

6th graders used pacing charts and compasses to help them navigate the orienteering courses at Dodge.  All did a great job working together to complete the course.

Conferences

Fall conferences are scheduled for October 25, 30, and November 1.  You will hear more about signing up for conferences soon.

In Science this week

5th graders will begin their weekly lessons with the Naturalist on Monday (10/1) and wrap up their Life Boat investigation.  This is part of you variables unit.

6th graders will continue learning about why mathematics is important in science.
